Kansas City Opens 2011 Season with 14-2 Victory

The Kansas City T-Bones (1-0) exploded onto the American Association scene on Thursday night with a 14-2 win over the El Paso Diablos (0-1) in El Paso, TX.

Kansas City grabbed a quick 2-0 lead against Shaun Ellis (0-1) in the first inning on a two-run double by Ray Sadler (pictured). After a scoreless second inning, the T-Bones pushed their early advantage to 5-0 with a bases-clearing double by Aharon Eggleston, who signed with the team prior to the game.

El Paso picked up their first run against Ryne Reynoso (1-0) with an RBI single by Gerardo Avila. Johan Garcia added the final Diablos tally with an RBI single in the fourth to pull El Paso within three, 5-2.

Reynoso went five innings for Kansas City, allowing the two runs on three hits while walking five and striking out one. Kyle Dahman pitched the next three scoreless frames, walking two and striking out two without surrendering a hit.

The T-Bones added another run in the fifth to chase Ellis from the contest. After pushing the score to 7-2 with a run in the sixth, Kansas City put the game away with a four-run seventh that began with an RBI triple by Rico Washington.

Jimmy Mojica made the score to 12-2 with a solo home run in the eighth and two additional runs in the ninth capped the scoring at 14-2. Six T-Bones posted multi-hit games, with Sadler and Eggleston driving in three runs each.

Rusty Jones threw a perfect ninth to close out the game for Kansas City.

The two teams face off again Friday night in game two of their four-game series. Left-hander Devin Anderson will make his T-Bones debut opposite right-hander David Whigham and the Diablos.
