The T-Bones kicked off the 2014 exhibition season with a win Monday night, beating the Lee’s Summit Monarchs 18-1. Former big leaguer David Barone got the win for the T-Bones, while former T-Bone and franchise wins leader Jonathan Krysa took the loss.
Newcomer Brian Erie got his T-Bones career off to a sizzling start, reaching base five times, including two doubles. He also had four RBIs.
Kansas City sent nine to the plate in the bottom of the fifth and then again in the seventh, roughing up the Monarchs bullpen for 10 runs between the two frames.
The T-Bones played dazzling defense throughout the night, highlighted by right fielder Robby Kuzdale’s diving catch in the second that robbed the Monarchs of a base hit.
The exhibition action continues Tuesday night at 7:05 when the T-Bones face off against the Lincoln Saltdogs at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
