Late Rally Falls Short as T-Bones Drop Game Two, 6-4

05/25/2011 2:21 PM -

The Kansas City T-Bones (6-6) loaded the bases with two outs in the ninth inning, but couldn’t capitalize on the opportunity as they dropped the second game of a doubleheader against the Lincoln Saltdogs (6-6), 6-4, at Haymarket Park in Lincoln, NE.

Lincoln jumped on the board first with a four-run second inning against T.J. Large (1-2), using four hits and one T-Bones’ error to gain a 4-0 advantage. Second baseman Joe Ramos drove in the first run with a single and later scored the third run of the inning when Blake Gailen reached safely on an error by first baseman Nick Farnsworth. The score remained the same until the sixth when Lincoln picked up their final two runs on two hits and another miscue by Kansas City. The first two batters reached with a double and a single before an error by third baseman Brian Joynt allowed both runners to score for a 6-0 Saltdogs lead.

Large left following the sixth inning, suffering the loss after allowing six runs, three earned, on eight hits.

The T-Bones finally broke through against left-hander Lindsay Gulin (1-3) in the seventh on an RBI single by Farnsworth. In the eight, Kansas City scored three times on three hits and a wild pitch to pull within two, 6-4. Rico Washington drove in the first run of the frame with an RBI single, and capped off the inning when he scored on a sacrifice fly by Dwayne White.

Gulin lasted eight innings for Lincoln, earning his first win of the season after allowing four runs on 11 hits.

The T-Bones pushed the tying run to second against P.J. Zocchi in the ninth, but a nice play by Ramos on a fielder’s choice groundout by Washington ended the threat, and the game. Zocchi secured his fourth save of the season in the contest.

Kansas City looks to prevent the sweep tomorrow night in the finale of a short three-game road trip. First pitch is set for 7:05. To catch all the action while the team is on the road, tune in to KUDL Radio Bach 1660 AM or visit the listen live link on www.tbonesbaseball.com.
