The Kansas City T-Bones announced today that they have purchased the contract of pitcher Mark Michael from the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Michael started 33 games over the past two seasons for Fargo going 13-11.
In 2006 Michael was 9-5 with a 4.19 ERA in 21 games. He pitched a career high 101 innings striking out 79 while walking 49. He held opponents to a .250 average against.
“He’s looking to move on but fits better in our rotation than he did in Fargo,” said T-Bones manager Andy McCauley. “He’ll probably pitch in the middle of our rotation. The last two years he was a quality starter and we’re hoping we can continue that here in Kansas City.”
Before joining the RedHawks, Michael spent the first three years of his career in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization.
The T-Bones also signed rookie catcher John Martin, a local product from Shawnee Kansas. He played his college ball at nearby Emporia State University before spending two seasons as a catcher in the Los Angeles Dodgers system. He hit .247 with a home run and 21 RBI in 54 games in the Dodgers system.
The T-Bones open their home schedule at CommunityAmerica Ballpark on May 23 against Schaumburg. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05. Single-game tickets, season tickets and mini plans are available now by calling the T-Bones box office at (913) 328-5618.
