KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Manager Andy McCauley and the Kansas City T-Bones of the independent Northern League announced today the signing of former Northern League All-Star Geoff McCallum.
McCallum spent the better part of the last four seasons playing for McCauley in Schaumburg. McCallum was signed mid-season last year by the Florida Marlins. He played in 33 games for the Marlins’ Class-A affiliate in Jupiter, Florida after his acquisition last summer
“We’re happy to get Geoff. He’s a perennial Northern League All-Star,” said McCauley. “We will look for him to give us a lot of production at the top of our lineup.”
McCallum is a lifetime .284 hitter with 11 home runs and 234 RBI. He hit a career high .358 with the Schaumburg Flyers in 2004. He also had his career best on-base percentage of .418 in 93 games.
McCallum is expected to be in the lineup today against the Calgary Vipers at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05.
Other Notes: In a separate move the T-Bones traded veteran shortstop Donaldo Mendez to the Newark Bears of the independent Atlantic League in exchange for future considerations. The T-Bones also released rookie pitcher Larkin Braxton.
