T-Bones Win Streak Ends with 10-5 Loss

06/24/2006 11:05 PM - KANSAS CITY – The T-Bones came up on the short end of a see-saw battle, tying the game twice before ultimately falling 10-5 to the Gary SouthShore RailCats Saturday night in front of a season-high crowd of 7,151 at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

The RailCats scored the first run of the game in the third inning, putting their first two batters aboard via walks. Steve Booth scored on a sacrifice-fly to right field by Kevin White to give the visitors the early lead.

Clad in their commemorative Redneck Weekend camouflage attire, the T-Bones had an answer in the bottom of the third, as James Beever walked, then scored when Greg Jacobs lofted his sixth home run of the season over the left field wall.

Gary took the lead once again in the fourth, as T-Bones' starter Jonathan Krysa gave up four singles and a walk leading to a 4-2 RailCats advantage.

The T-Bones turned to the long ball again in the fifth, as leadoff batter Jesse Acosta hit his second professional home run, bringing the T-Bones to within one run. Jacobs came home with the tying run on an Eddie Pearson ground out after advancing to third on an errant pick-off attempt at first base.

But the RailCats jumped back on top in the seventh, as Kevin White scored on a passed ball by T-Bones catcher Craig Hurba. The T-Bones wouldn’t go away though, as Acosta singled and scored when Charles Peterson grounded into a double-play, tying the game at 5-5 after seven innings of play.

Gary seized control of the game for good in the eighth inning, scoring three runs on two doubles, two singles, and a walk to take an 8-5 lead. The RailCats would score two more in the ninth off four hits and a hit batsman to put the game out of reach.

Caleb Balbuena (1-2) was saddled with the loss for the T-Bones after giving up three runs on three hits in one-third of an inning. Kris Regas (2-1) picked up the victory for Gary, tossing two scoreless innings of relief.

The T-Bones will conclude their current homestand Sunday as they face Gary for the final time in the first half of the season. The first pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m., as RHP James Beever (0-0, 0.00) will take the mound for the T-Bones, while Gary will counter with RHP Sazi Guthrie (0-0, 3.52).
