Monday night in Joliet, IL, the Kansas City T-Bones won their third consecutive game, a 3-0 decision over the Joliet JackHammers. Kansas City got all three runs on Eddie Pearsons three-run homer to right in the top of the eighth inning, and the pitching staff worked a masterpiece to complete the victory. Pearsons homer followed a bunt by Chad Sosebee and a bloop single off the bat of T-Bones slugger Ray Brown.
Starter Nick Webb worked 6.2 IP and struck out seven while allowing just five hits. Webb, in his first start since 2003, was coming off Tommy John surgery and benefited from solid defense at the hot corner from rookie Brandon Jones. Webb left a tie game in the bottom of the seventh with runners on first and second, but Joe Goodmann forced Joliet catcher Jeff Goldbach to ground out to third to end the threat.
Goodmann worked a scoreless eighth inning, striking out two, before giving way to T-Bone closer Derek Forbes, who struck out two of the three batters he faced.
Pearsons home run against Joliet reliever Joaquin Canizal gave him three homers and six runs batted in on the season. Canizal was on in relief of starter Luis Villarreal, who had hurled seven scoreless innings.
Notes: T-Bones starters have allowed just two earned runs in 26 innings of work this season Forbes earned his second save of the season in tonights game Pearson, who holds the league record with 17 intentional walks, was intentionally walked for the second time this season.
