09/12/2004 1:51 PM - Two Triples Trip Up T-Bones in 7-2 Flyers Win; Series Tied at 2 Apiece
Two Schaumburg Flyer triples, each driving in two runs, led to three-run innings in the third and ninth innings for the Schaumburg Flyers as they took Game 4 of the South Division Championship against the Kansas City T-Bones, 7-2.
In the third, it was Geoff McCallum coming to the plate against T-Bones starter Greg Bicknell (L, 1-1) with runners on first and second. McCallum's triple down the right field line tied the ballgame at 2, and he scored on a Mario Delgado single off the glove of second baseman Mike Brown to give Schaumburg a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
The top of the ninth saw Tim Merritt sock an 0-2 pitch from T-Bones reliever Matt McClellan to dead center, scoring two runs; Merritt would score on another Delgado single, this one to right, to put the game out of reach at 7-2. Delgado drove in three runs, including an eighth-inning insurance homer that made it 4-2 against Bicknell.
Kansas City got on the board in the first, when Rick Prieto, who had reached on an error, scored on Eddie Pearson's single to right. Pearson's single against Schaumburg starter Hank Woodman (W, 1-1) drove in his first run of the series, and the T-Bones would score again in the second on back-to-back doubles by Matt Ceriani and Jack Jones to take a 2-0 lead.
At that point, Woodman settled down nicely, allowing no runs in his final six innings of work while striking out nine total. Working on three days' rest for the second time this season, Woodman threw 95 pitches in his eight innings. The T-Bones will send Jonathan Krysa (0-1, 4.70) against Flyer RHP Matt Bailie (1-0, 2.25) in the deciding game of the series, a 5:05 PM game at CommunityAmerica Ballpark. The game will be broadcast live on www.tbonesbaseball.com and All Comedy Radio KCKN 1340.
