Saltdog Errors Help T-Bones to 10-1 Win

08/22/2004 11:35 AM - LINCOLN, Neb. - Four Lincoln Saltdog errors in the early going started the Kansas City T-Bones off on the right foot, with four runs in the first four frames, and righty Matt McClellan worked a season-high eight innings as the T-Bones pummeled the Lincoln Saltdogs 10-1 at Haymarket Park Sunday.

Mike Brown crossed the plate first for the T-Bones, coming in on a Matt Ceriani single to right in the top of the second. Brown had singled to right and advanced to second on a fielding error by right fielder Bryan Warner. Meanwhile, McClellan was cruising for the T-Bones, not allowing a hit until the fourth inning, when the Saltdogs would get their lone run of the game against him.

The T-Bones scored a single run in the third, Rick Prieto coming across the dish for the 89th time this season to set a Northern League record. Prieto reached base on an error by Lincoln 2B Clemente Bonilla and crossed the plate on an RBI single by Cody Nowlin, one of two for Nowlin on the day. Nowlin was back in the lineup after missing a game from the aftereffects of being hit in the head by an Adam Springston pitch on Friday night.

Momentum really swung for the T-Bones in the fourth inning, however. Ceriani doubled to center to start things off and, as Prieto walked, Ceriani crept toward third, catching Lincoln 3B Josh Patton napping. The throw from P Hideki Nagasaka was off the mark, allowing Ceriani to score and Prieto to advance to third. Prieto would score on a ground out by Chad Hill to make it 4-0.

Kansas City would score six times in the final three frames to take a 10-1 lead over Lincoln, which loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth. But reliever John Howerton worked out of the jam, emerging unscathed as the T-Bones took two of three from Lincoln.
