Davis Stellar in Pro Debut

08/18/2009 8:05 PM -

Behind seven stellar innings from rookie hurler Brett Davis (1-0), the Kansas City T-Bones (37-45) cruised to a 9-1 win over the Schaumburg Flyers (35-48) in the first game of a doubleheader at CommunityAmerica Ballpark tonight.

Davis, who was signed as a free agent before the Northern League roster freeze last night, allowed just one run on seven hits while striking out seven in his professional debut.  A product of Oklahoma State University, Davis allowed just one runner to reach third through the first six innings, retiring six in-a-row at one point in the outing.

The Flyers pushed their only run across in the seventh inning on an RBI single to left by Tony Mansolino.  Lyndon Poole doubled with one out earlier in the frame and advanced to third on a balk before scoring on the two-out hit.  A fielder’s choice groundout by Joe Pauley ended the game.

The T-Bones struck early against Dustin Glant (6-7) with a three-run home run by Neb Brown.  After a quiet second inning, Ryan Fox added three more runs with a shot of his own in the third, pushing Kansas City’s lead to 6-0.

Glant surrendered six runs on four hits over four innings in the loss.

Fox blasted his second home run of the contest, and 24th of the season, off Joseph Campbell in the sixth to extend the T-Bones lead to seven.  Jacob Blackwood finished Kansas City’s scoring with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh.

Despite the game taking place in Kansas City, the T-Bones were the visiting team in game one of tonight’s twinbill as the game was rescheduled from a rainout originally scheduled for Sunday, August 16 in Schaumburg.  Kansas City will resume the role of home team in the second contest.
