The Kansas City T-Bones were unable to complete a three-game sweep of the Joliet JackHammers as they fell, 5-3, at CommunityAmerica Ballpark tonight.

In front of 4,011 fans, Aharon Eggleston reached on catcher’s interference to begin the T-Bones half of the first.  He advanced to third when Brad Correll doubled off Brad Mumma and scored on a single by Craig Hurba.  Correll was thrown out at home on the play to end the inning.

Luis Villarreal allowed just one baserunner through his first three innings before three straight batters reached in the fourth.  Phil Avlas walked with one out and went to third on a double by Freddie Thon.  Avlas then scored on a wild pitch before a single from Tim Alberts plated Thon for a 2-1 Joliet advantage.

Hurba tied the game in the bottom of the inning with a solo home run, his fourth of the season.  After a scoreless fifth inning for both teams, the JackHammers capitalized on a two-out error by first baseman Ken Harvey when the next hitter, Andrew Pinckney, homered to left for a 4-2 Joliet lead.

Villarreal left after six innings in favor of Blair Johnson after surrendering four runs, two earned, on six hits.  The left-hander struck out eight as he fell to 0-1.  Mumma was relieved by Chad Blackwell with one out in the sixth.  He improved to 2-1 after allowing two runs, one earned, on eight hits.
Each team scored in the seventh to push the final tally to 5-3.  Kevin Rios singled home K.C. Herren for Joliet and Correll drove in Eggleston with a single to left.

Johnson was relieved by Weston Curles with two outs in the ninth.  Curles struck out the only batter he faced to end the inning.  Jason Richardson got two quick outs in the bottom of the ninth before walking two straight hitters, bringing Jim Fasano to the plate representing the winning run.  Fasano lined an offer from Richardson into right-center but Adam Klein tracked it down to end the game.  Richardson picked up his third save in the contest.

The T-Bones continue their 10-game homestand with three-game series against the Schaumburg Flyers beginning tomorrow night.  First pitch is set for 7:05.  Single-game tickets for the T-Bones start at just $6.  Season tickets, group tickets, mini-plans and All-You-Can-Eat plans are available as well.
