T-Bones Suffer Weather-Shortened Sweep

05/17/2009 9:07 PM -

Bear Bay struck out nine for the Goldeyes over six and one-thirds innings, earning the victory after allowing just three runs as Winnipeg defeated the Kansas City T-Bones, 13-3, at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.

With 3,764 in attendance, Justin James allowed the first six batters he faced to reach safely before getting the first out.  Three of those runners scored on a home run by Kevin West before a grand slam by Wes Long capped off a seven-run first inning.  The right-hander would surrender four more runs in the second, including three on a home run by Dee Brown before leaving after one and one-thirds innings.  He was tagged with the loss after giving up 11 runs on nine hits.

After a scoreless first, the T-Bones picked up their first run off Bay on a solo home run by Ryan Fox (pictured).  They added another run in the third on an RBI single by Damian Rolls before Bay retired 12 of his next 13 batters, including 10 in-a-row.  Fox’s second solo home run of the game in the seventh inning chased Bay and capped off the T-Bones scoring for the night.

Weston Curles entered for James in the second and threw two and two-thirds scoreless innings for Kansas City.  Cody McAllister added a scoreless frame and Payton Tweddale pitched two innings, allowing an RBI single to Josh Asanovich in the seventh.  Juan Diaz topped off the scoring for Winnipeg with a solo home run off of Chris Rhoads in the eighth.  Andy Shipman threw a perfect ninth to finish the game for the T-Bones.

The T-Bones begin a three-game series against the Schaumburg Flyers tomorrow.  Ryan Knippschild takes the mound for Kansas City opposite a pitcher to be determined.  First pitch is set for 7:05.  Single-game tickets for the T-Bones start at just $6.  Season tickets, group tickets, mini-plans and All-You-Can-Eat plans are available as well.
