Former Royal Danny Jackson to Join 2004 T-Bones Staff

10/08/2003 10:06 AM - Kansas City, KS – The Kansas City T-Bones are excited to bring another Kansas City legend back to round out their coaching staff for the 2004 season. Danny Jackson, who broke in with the Royals back in 1983, will serve as the pitching coach, replacing Chris White.

Kansas City sports fans will forever remember Danny Jackson for his role in the Royals’ 1985 World Championship season. Jackson five-hit the Cardinals in Game 5, starting the Royals on the comeback trail from their 3-1 deficit in the Series and setting the stage for the fateful sixth game. The southpaw appeared in three World Series, taking home rings with the ’85 Royals and ’90 Cincinnati Reds; in fact, Jackson was a teammate of current T-Bones hitting coach, Darryl Motley with the '85 Royals.

Jackson’s best season of his thirteen in the bigs was as a Red in 1988. In finishing second in the Cy Young Award balloting, Jackson tied for the National League lead in wins and complete games, going 23-8 with six shutouts. With six teams over those thirteen campaigns, Jackson compiled 112 wins, 37 as a Royal.

Since the end of his major league career in 1997, Jackson has remained active in the Kansas City community, opening a 65,000 square foot bowling and entertainment center after his playing days ended. “We are very lucky to have someone with Danny’s experience as part of our staff,” said Adam Ehlert, Kansas City T-Bones General Manager. “He has played an integral role in our community since his retirement and we know he will be a perfect fit.”

“Dirty" Al Gallagher, the returning field manager of the T-Bones, is excited to have a man of Jackson’s experience around. “Danny brings experience to a staff of ex-major leaguers, including myself and Darryl Motley. He stabilizes us in an area we fell short in last season, and I couldn’t be more excited about 2004.”

Jackson himself is ecstatic to be back in uniform next season. “I am happy to be a part of the team and know that I can help the pitchers both from my experience in what it takes to be successful on the mound as well as the conditioning aspects of the game,” remarked Jackson. “It’ll be a challenge, and we should be able to improve on the team’s earned run average. There’s nowhere to go but up!”

After a successful inaugural campaign, the Kansas City T-Bones of the Northern League are eagerly preparing for their second season.
