KANSAS CITY, Kan. – The Kansas City T-Bones won their second straight game against the  St. Paul Saints on Friday thanks to a big night from Zach Walters. The designated hitter ended the night with one run, two hits and four RBIs.

The Saints got things started first thing with third baseman Nate Hanson’s RBI single off of right-handed pitcher, Calvin Drummond (1-1). First baseman Brady Shoemaker added an RBI single of his own to score a second run, giving St. Paul an early 2-0 lead.

T-Bones’ Walters narrowed the margin to one with an RBI single, scoring center fielder, Omar Garcia off Saints starter Dustin Crenshaw (0-1). Kansas City trailed 2-1 going into the second inning.

Kansas City took the lead for the first time in the third inning with a hit by third baseman, Marcus Lemon. First baseman, Kevin Keyes, got two RBIs off of a double to put the T-Bones up 4-2.

The fourth inning was quiet for both teams, but the T-Bones were hitting lights out in the fifth. Walters nailed a three-run home run to put Kansas City up 7-2. Left fielder, Joe Jackson, followed up with a solo home run to left field to extend the lead to 8-2.

Tony Caldwell bounced into a double play that allowed the Saints to cut the T-Bones’ lead to five in the sixth. St. Paul wouldn’t score again until the top of the ninth.

Hanson contributed another RBI single, scoring two runs to put the Saints within three, but second baseman, Tony Thomas, couldn’t complete a grand slam opportunity and Kansas City took their second game of a three-game series with St. Paul, 8-5.

Calvin Drummond tossed a quality start, going six innings and giving up just three earned runs to get the win. The loss went to newly signed Dustin Crenshaw (0-1). Cody Winiarski notched the save, recording the final out, sending 6,025 fans home happy.

“For us to get a series win and have a third opportunity to sweep, that’s what we’re going to come out tomorrow and try to do,” manager Joe Calfapietra said.

The T-Bones will play their final game of a six game homestand tomorrow night against the St. Paul Saints at 7:05 p.m. at CommunityAmerica Ballpark.
