The Kansas City T-Bones and manager Andy McCauley have announced the signing of pitchers Blair Johnson and Daniel Sattler to contracts for the 2009 season.
Johnson, 25, was originally drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the second round of the 2002 amateur draft. The right-hander spent seven years in the Pirates system before his release following the 2008 season. Last year, Johnson split time between Class A Lynchburg and Double-A Altoona. He finished the season with a 4-2 record in 35 appearances, one start. Johnson holds a career 4.36 ERA over 365 innings.
“Johnson made a good impression in tryout camp, but there wasn’t room for him on the roster at that point,” McCauley said. “We’re happy to have him join us and look forward to seeing what he can do in the Northern League.”
Sattler, 25, joins the T-Bones after spending two seasons in the Texas Rangers organization. He was originally drafted by the Rangers in the 44th round of the 2006 draft. The right-hander has a career 3.50 ERA in 105 and one-thirds innings with a strikeout-to-walk ratio of almost three-to-one (115:39).
“Sattler’s going to add depth to our relief staff,” McCauley added. “He knows how to throw strikes and will solidify our bullpen.”
To make room for Johnson and Sattler, pitchers David Trahan and Andy Shipman were released.
The 7-3 T-Bones look to finish off a three-game sweep of the Joliet JackHammers tonight. Single game, group, All-You-Can-Eat and season tickets are still available for the homestand and start at just $6.
